Our philosophy
We believe the best skincare comes from the land—not a lab. Every Backwood Bougie product starts with grass-fed tallow and old-school wisdom, made to restore, protect, and nourish the way nature intended.
The skincare standard
No fillers, no fads, no noise. Just clean, down-to-earth formulas that put quality first and let your skin do what it was made to do: heal and glow.
Grass-Fed Tallow, Always
We keep our formulas rooted in pure, grass-fed tallow because your skin knows exactly what to do with it. It’s rich in vitamins, deeply moisturizing, and far cleaner than the synthetic fillers most brands rely on.
Made with care
Every product is poured by hand in small batches to keep quality high and ingredients honest. No mass production, no watered-down formulas — just skincare made with intention.
Rustic Goodness, Bougie Results
We blend old-school, down-to-earth ingredients with skin-loving performance. The result? Simple, natural skincare that feels luxurious without ever losing its roots.

Why Tallow
Simple, deep nourishment. Tallow is rich in skin-loving fats that help lock in moisture and support a healthy skin barrier. It’s especially loved for dry, tight, stressed skin — and a little goes a long way.
Why Backwood Bougie
Backwood Bougie is skincare made the way we believe it should be: simple, honest, and held to a higher standard. Our tallow is crafted from grass-fed, grass-finished suet sourced directly from our family ranch, Brown Pearcy Cattle Company — never mystery-sourced. Every jar is small-batch and intentionally made with clean ingredients (no fillers, no synthetics, no artificial fragrance). If we wouldn’t use it on our own families, we won’t make it.
Frequently asked questions
What makes Backwood Bougie different from other tallow skincare brands?
Backwood Bougie is unique because we source our suet tallow directly from our own family ranch — Brown Pearcy Cattle Company. Our cattle are grass-fed, grass-finished, and raised with more than 75 years of heritage and care.
By controlling the source of our tallow, we’re able to oversee the process from ranch to finished product. Each formula is handcrafted in small batches using simple, intentional ingredients — without fillers, fragrance oils, or unnecessary additives.
What is tallow, and why do you use it in skincare?
Tallow is a natural fat rendered from grass-fed cattle. It’s naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K and beneficial fatty acids that help nourish and support healthy skin.
Because tallow closely resembles the natural oils our skin produces, it absorbs easily and helps support the skin barrier. Many people find it deeply moisturizing, soothing, and ideal for dry or sensitive skin.
Is Backwood Bougie safe for sensitive skin?
Many people with sensitive skin find tallow-based skincare to be very gentle because its fatty acid profile is similar to the natural oils our skin produces. Our formulas are intentionally simple and made with a short list of nourishing ingredients.
However, every person’s skin is different. If you have highly sensitive or reactive skin, we recommend performing a small patch test before full use, especially if you have conditions such as eczema or rosacea.
Where are your products manufactured?
Our products are handcrafted locally in small batches. Because we source our suet tallow directly from our own cattle operation, we’re able to oversee the process from start to finish—ensuring the quality and care that go into every jar.
Will tallow clog my pores?
For most people, tallow is well tolerated and unlikely to clog pores. The fatty acid profile of tallow is very similar to the natural oils (sebum) our skin already produces, which allows it to absorb easily and support the skin barrier without sitting heavily on the surface.
That said, everyone’s skin is different. If you are acne-prone or have very sensitive skin, we recommend starting with a small amount and observing how your skin responds.
